The 10+ cultivars include well-known varieties such as Honeycrisp, Cortland, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Jonathan, and Macintosh. Run by Mike and Beth Hollingsworth, they are focused on healthy living, protecting the biodiversity of the land, and honoring the diverse heritage of the Waterloo community.
Cooks Fruits and Vegetables We have sweet corn, tomatoes, onions, peas on the farm. Come check it out and learn about our growing practices.
Dr. Walter Cunningham School Garden Our garden was installed in fall 2017 and has been utilized as an after school program, summer programs, and during the school day. See what students are growing this year!
Fitkin Popcorn LLC is part of a HERITAGE FARM in Black Hawk County. We have been growing, processing and marketing FIT-POP since 1986. Our popcorn is grown in various fields on our farm between Cedar Falls and Janesville. FIT-POP is grown using sustainable practices using a minimum amount of herbicide to control weeds.
Highland Community Garden is a new community garden created this season. Come check it out and learn more. This is a partnership between the Highland neighborhood, City of Waterloo, Black Hawk County Public Health, and the UNI Local Food Program.
Hope Tree Acres Our farm is designed to give opportunities for local community members to learn urban farming practices and to grow organic produce to sell at low and no cost to residents of the Cedar Valley.
Jesse Cosby Center Garden The garden is dedicated to keeping and enhancing the quality of life for our neighborhood families—through stewardship of resources and shared responsibility. Services for individuals and families include senior services such as an adult day center and meals on wheels.
The Jesse Cosby Center community garden is managed by We Arose and offers weekly gardening activities and FREE fresh produce to our clients.
Litteaur’s Garden Produce We are located on a family farm in Waterloo. We have 9 acres of vegetable production with approximately 15 different vegetables including asparagus, bell peppers, greens, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, winter squash.
Northeast Iowa Food Bank All produce is distributed to clients on-site through the Cedar Valley Food Pantry, but none of this is possible without an army of volunteers! We welcome master gardeners, gardening clubs, youth groups, corporate groups, student clubs, church groups and all other organizations to volunteer at our community garden.
Our community garden utilizes organic growing practices to create a habitat designed to attract butterflies, bees and other beneficial species. Garden debris and food waste are composted to provide a nutrient rich soil amendment for production while diverting waste from landfills
We provide educational activities on-site through the Summer Feeding program by engaging children in the food cycle and growing process. Children are then able to take the food they harvest in the garden into our on-site kitchen to prepare a nutritious food item.
Peoples Community Health Clinic Garden operates a 1/3 of an acre vegetable garden, Peoples Garden, on the clinic grounds, and all the produce go to the clients at the clinic as well as weekly delivery to certain patients. The garden is a collaboration between the UNI Local Food Program, Peoples Clinic, We Arose, AmeriCorps members, and volunteers.
Southern Goods Southern Goods started in 2019 as a soil health research project. It has grown into a thriving produce business. We grow our produce using regenerative and biological methods that we believe will cause our produce to be more nutritious. We specialize in southern produce like Collard and Turnip Greens, Okra, Purple Hull Peas and Sweet Potatoes.
Sugar Hill Sugar Hill is a neighborhood garden raising specialty crops including okra, purple hull peas, collards, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes. Community members share resources and time to plant, manage, and harvest the garden area.
